Notting Hill Carnival Sunday 24 - Monday 25 August 2008

Adult's Day

Carnival really is all about one day - Bank Holiday Monday – the day reserved for the very bravest adults. The ones who can take the huge sound systems, the crushing crowds and the desperate hunt for the nearest loo.

But for those of you who with the stamina to keep going all day the pay off is the most vibrant and exciting day out in London this summer. The culmination of months of hard work designing and creating costumes, putting together sound systems and practising music and dance routines, Monday’s celebration is the true essence of Carnival.

This year’s Carnival sees few changes from the usual line up with the parade route remaining the same and music from your favourite sound systems taking up residence in, for the most part, their usual spots.

Adult’s Day Line Up | 25 August 2008:

Notting Hill Carnival
Europe’s biggest celebration of music, movement and masquerade. On the Road Senior Costume Competition (several categories including King, Queen and Best Band). The ‘Soca on the move’ competition, in association with Caribbean Music Association, also takes place on Sunday and Monday.

"If you bring in excess of a million people into ANY one area and add alcohol, chances are a small percentage of them will turn into idiots of the most ugly kind. This would be the same regardless of race, creed or colour, you can TRY to take the idiot out of ALL society but you will never take the idiot (whatever colour) out of modern culture."

"I went this year and it was not so good as when i went for for very first time 4 years ago.You have to wait for 20 - 30 minutes for the floats, the gaps in betwween was too long, that was a downside for this years carnival for me, but what i enjoy about the carnival was the diversity, people from different cultures from all over the world united through music and dance, everybody enjoying themselves in their own unique way, from all ages, that is brilliant.

The police presence was good to see, what was great aswell, to see some officers enjoying themselves, although they are working, well done. well done to the organisers. Looking forward for next year."

"I went to Adults Day last year for the first time the atmosphere was crazy the crowds were unbelieveble I had a great day with all my friends. People always comment on trouble which occurs at the carnival but I didn't see or hear any trouble.

The only problems we had were the expensive prices on alcohol."
